I've used these filters in the past and had no problems. I purchased another one yesterday, and after it had been running for awhile, I noticed that it was leaking down over the motor housing. (Yikes, nice fire hazard and water damage in 1!# I exchanged it for another one today, brought that one home, plugged it in and it leaked too. I called the AquaTech 800# and followed their directions on tightening the motor housing, checking the O ring etc. Plugged it back in and now it doesn't run at all. After messing with it for some time, I let it sit for awhile before trying it again. When I came back, it had leaked again even without the vibration of the filter actually running. They will be sending a new one, in a week #not good news for an established aquarium# and I argued against #and won) paying to return mine. We'll see if the 3rd time is the charm???

This filter worked very well for my turtle aquarium for 4 years. I gave it to a friend and she is still using it for her fish.I replaced it with the next size up since his new aquarium was larger. Easy to clean- I highly recommend it.

I bought this filter for my 55 gallon fresh water Cichlid tank, and it does an amazing job at keeping the water CRYSTAL CLEAR!! Great Filter! I Would recommend to a friend!!

I have owned my original Aqua Tech Under Gravel Aqua Filter for almost 20 years! These work great and the price on the filter cartridge is very fair. I have used other brands,but this one is my favorite and the brand that I stay true to. Worth every cent.Easy to change,and make enjoying your aquarium so much easier than in the old fiber glass and charcoal days!

I have been buying buying aquariums on Craigslist for the past few years and have thus bought a few of these filters along with the rest of the attendant gear. These included all the available sizes of Aqua-Tech filters so I got a pretty good exposure to the full line. They all proved to be amazingly tough, hard working , silent running and well designed for their task as well as economical to maintain. That such an excellently designed, affordable unit is available at such an ubiquitous retailer as WalMart is quite something to marvel.

The Tetra Whisper filter keeps the water crystal clear. I replace it once a month. The filter itself is exceptional. Whisper quiet!

I always buy filters that are rated at twice what I need. I have used this filter for 3 years with no problems. I don't even hear it running unless my water level gets to low, but then it's a waterfall sound. For the reviews saying its loud, I don't understand what their talking about. Only time mine was loud was when the filter was sucking up air bubbles from my air pump. Buying another one this week for a new set up.

I have purchased this filter twice and each time I had problems with them Tetra was there to correct it. The replaced my defective filter really fast. In a matter of days I was back up and running. I cannot say enough about the service. Now, going to the filter, I find that the Tetra filter is the quietest and the refill cartridges have the most cost effective price. I buy the refills in bulk because I change them every month. With my first filter, it just simply stopped working and no amount of cleaning of the motor would get it to start. One tip I would suggest to Tetra regarding this filter is that they should build in some kind of safety to the motor should the electricity go out otherwise the motor can continue to run while the impeller is stuck. That's what I suspect happened to mine. When you live in Hawaii where there are lots of power outages, you are going to run into that problem a lot. I think the motor became overheated and parts within the motor became worn as a result. It's like revving your engine but the wheels on breaks for a long period of time. Otherwise, I love the fact that the filter goes into the tank rather than outside because it does not get in the way of the walls or the sides where they can get bumped into. I notice that they are selling the filters that are not ready to use like they used to. I prefer those as there is no need to fumble with the charcoals which can get messy. I hope that they go back to those as they were actually better in terms of convenience and do not tend to fray like the new ones. I've had the new ones fray so much that I just had to simply replace them well ahead of the scheduled change. I hope that Tetra has not discontinued the ready to use filter replacement. Otherwise, I would be a completely happy camper. Thanks Tetra!

this thing filtered out my 10 gal tank very quick and keeps it clean i recamend this for a small tank!!

I spent hours trying to assemble this, finally determined that one of the tubes is either missing a part or broken. Returning. Buy the Whisper in the tank tetra filter instead . . . soooooo much easier, and a great filter! I have a super dirty turtle and it keeps my 55 gallon clean.

This filter does what it is supposed to do. I have been using it on my 10 gallon for about 3 months now. There is no need to change the media every week. In fact that is the worst thing you can do. There are beneficial bacteria in the filter that break down the ammonia from fish waste. It's called the nitrogen cycle and it is critical to a successful aquarium. If your water is cloudy then you are most likely overfeeding your fish. Every couple of weeks or so you can rinse the catridge out in used aquarium water or luke-warm dechlorinated tap water. The chlorine in untreated tap water will kill the bacteria.
