The Funai plays vhs as well as blu-ray dvd's and it does come with its own remote.

This device plays VHS, DVD, DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and Kodak Picture Discs. It comes with it's own remote. Batteries are also included.

I am not sure what you mean by "just vhs".

It will play standard NTSC VHS tapes, but not Sony Beta tapes.

It may play VHS-C tapes with an adapter, I do not have one to try.

I just finished converting 32 VHS home video tapes to Digital and this deck made it very easy! It's the only VHS player I could find that plays the tape output to the HDMI, Component and S-Video outputs. All of the other machines I found only played the DVD to those hi-def outputs and the Tape only played to Composite Video out. So, with this model, you only need one cable for the output. The VHS-to-DVD dubbing feature is very easy to use. It automatically creates DVD menus, and you have to manually 'finalize' the DVD (which is not at all self-explanatory), but it is functional.
It also does a nice job playing audio CDs, so it'll soon be moving from my desk to my home-theater.

Unexpectedly Impressed

This order arrived earlier than the estimated delivery date and this alone made me so happy. I was able to install with no problems and started enjoying it right away. I love it.

It does everry thing promised, in a very easy to follow plan. The only draw back is that uses ONLY "-R" DVRs and DVRWs. This is set out in the User Guide very clearly, but I can see that many readers would gloss past it, and curse the innocent vendor

This unit was very easy to use. You can even copy multiple VHS tapes to a single hd DVD. I was impressed with the quality of the unit and it would have cost far more to take my tapes to a service to convert.

Save all your old family VHS tapes.

Bought this to use with my home theater system so I could record movies, etc. from my cable service and transfer my old vhs recordings to dvd. This unit looks attractive, was easy to set up and performs exactly as advertised. I'm happy with this purchase and recommend it to anyone looking for a good dvd/vhs recorder. I ordered this online (saved money this way) and Wal-Mart had it ready to pickup within one half an hour.

Works Great

Good product but it does not do everything it says. It will not write to dvd + rw or dvd+r. Only dvd-rw,and dvd-r. Other wise it is a good product. It just does not do all that one would want it to. Also you need a rf modulator to use a cable wire. That's not good. Even though they only cost about $5-10. Other than that its ok. You should be the one to decide.

A good product but it lacks explanation.

This product was bought with the intention of rescuing a bunch old VHS tapes and allow them to be archived on DVD media. It does that perfectly. No trouble at all getting it to work. Just read the manual. Easy to follow. The naming of "chapters" is a bit of a pain but for most recordings, it is not even necessary.

Easy to make VHS to DVD

I've only used the recorder for a week and it works as advertised. There is no problem with the unit. I also have a Magnavox MDR537H HDD DVR and DVD Recorder with Digital Tuner. I tried to stack them but the remote operates both units at the same time wheather the other unit is turned on or not. I talked to customer service and their solution is to plug in the unit you want to use and leave the other unplug. Because of the range of the remotes, that has been the only workable solution.
