No it does not have a retractable cord--which my previous vacuum cleaner had, and it's a really nice feature--however, countless times my cord did not retract properly anyway!

No it doesn't. One of the problems with my older vacuum was that the retractable cord no longer worked. I don't mind not having this feature and seem to be able to work around this. The cord is long enough that I don't have to keep changing it to different outlets.

No. This model does not have the retractable cord. The vac i found with that feature were about 100.00 or more and did not have the other features I was looking for.

No, it is not self-propelled. But this is not an issue since this vacuum is lighter weight and is steerable. Please note: I needed the self propelled feature with my older model Hoover upright, but I do not with this model.

The Air Steerable's motor may be overheating, causing it to shut down to cool off. This is usually due to a clog. Just clear the airway and it will be fine. It's easy. First, take off the dirt cup, unscrew the lid and remove the rinsable filter. If it looks dirty, rinse it under warm water and let it dry on its side for 24 hours. This is a good maintenance practice, but most likely not where the problem lies. The more likely spot for a clog is in the main hose. Detach it from the machine and run a broom handle through it to knock out any debris. Next, check the lower hose. You may see a clog there through the almost clear plastic tube when you stretch it out. If so, unscrew the base plate and take a wire hanger or long utensil to push the obstruction out. You probably have a blockage, something has been sucked into vacuum to block suction . I was fortunate to have a shopvavc that I could suck it out,it was a small plastic ball renters son sucked up.
