it only uses the Hot Water fron your faucet, but it does have a seperate cleaning tank and does the mixing for you.

Tho it calls it a "steam cleaner", it is hot water and soap. Works great but the name is deceptive.

I just bought this machine, but it won&#39;t arrive until today. On Amazon.com, the same question was asked and it was explained that the heat from the motor is what is forced out to help dry the carpet. Adding hot water is only if you want to for the washing part of your chore. It is not what makes the heat to dry your carpet, that comes from the motor.

This uses water and cleaning solution.  It does not heat the water, which, in other brands (won&#39;t mention name, but rhymes with &quot;missile&quot;), tends to cause the sprayer to clog.  Hot tap water is sufficient.  

Also, this item is considered a &quot;carpet cleaner&quot; and not a &quot;steam cleaner&quot;.  Unfortunately, the misleading term &quot;steam cleaner&quot; has become as common as &quot;kleenex&quot; for tissues (let&#39;s hear it for Puffs?) in describing any type of carpet cleaners.

Yes, you have a tank that you fill with the clean water and then there is a seperate tank when the dirty water is put.

yes it does. I used it on my couch and it worked well. However it tends to overspray on rounded edges. (ie the sofa arms.) so you may want to have a towel handy!
