New Jersey Bag Ban Common Questions
Will I be charged for the reusable bags that my order is delivered in?
Walmart has provided free reusable bags in New Jersey while customers, the state legislation, and other retailers adjust to this new law. If you opt out of buying more reusable bags, please leave totes or reusable bags at your doorstep.
What are single-use carryout bags?
The State of New Jersey defines single-use carryout bags as ones made of paper or plastic that are not reusable. Learn more at NJ Bag Ban.
Why is there a ban on single-use bags in New Jersey?
The State of New Jersey passed this legislation in response to the growing problem of plastic pollution.
My local government previously enacted a bag ban and my store bagged online orders in paper bags. Why can't they do that anymore?
The State of New Jersey's bag ban supersedes all previously enacted bag ordinances, making its requirements uniform statewide. Paper bags, along with single-use plastic bags, are banned in New Jersey for this reason.
I order deliveries through other third-party delivery services. Why is their policy different?
Third-party delivery services are developing their own New Jersey bag ban guidelines. For Walmart, compliance and commitment to the environment are equally important components in our efforts to reduce our dependence on single-use plastic.
How do I prepare for an unattended/contactless delivery?
Please leave a container (tote, box, reusable bags, etc.) at the delivery location. Update the delivery instructions with instructions on where to leave the order. This will assist the delivery driver and ensure a safe delivery.
