I looked for months online for affordable, plain, neutral, natural fabric placemats and these are by far the nicest I've ever ordered/used. Large enough for everyday place settings, but I still like to use a drink coaster with it. The natural and luxe linen, a golden yellowish-beige, does not get stained easily. The flecks camouflage, and oily marinara stains caught the same day rinse right out with dish soap and cold water. So for messy eaters, these still work great. Apply Dawn soap to pretreat, rinse out stains in the kitchen sink, stick a little more soap on, and throw in the wash later. You can also continue to hand wash in a clean kitchen tub with just Dawn or by adding a little oxyclean. I hand wash, gently wring out, block/smooth them out on the countertop, and let dry overnight. They are heavy ply, and keep their shape on cool wash perm press/bedding settings. Cool to warm dry. No need to iron. I just smooth them out with my hand while warm.
