I purchased this item because as a homeschooling family, we go through pencils like crazy. We needed an automatic pencil sharpener because the handheld manual ones kept eating our pencils. They would break during sharpening or shortly thereafter. This sharpener is such a timesaver! Now my kids fight over who will sharpen the pencils because it is actually fun to now! I like that it can be charged by a USB cable and then it keeps it charged so the sharpener is not confined to an outlet. The directions was not in English, however it's pretty self explanatory on how to use it. There are 5 different settings on the type of point you want it to sharpen the pencil to. All you have to do is put it in, and it takes it sharpens it, and when it's done it lifts it back up so you can pull it out. It automatically stops sharpening when done! SO COOL! We don't have a wide variety of different brands, but we have sharpened Crayola colored pencils, Pen %26 Gear colored pencils, No. 2 Pencils, and even Ticonderoga triangular pencils. All sharpened wonderfully. The only issue we came across was when we sharpened a really short pencil because it needs to be at a length where it can grab onto it.
