It works well with four straps, see picture.

The straps are made with good quality and they WORK well to stop the raccoons. If you have a flimsy trash can you may need four straps, but two will work for strong trash can. I like the product and the seller sent me a nice note apologizing for the delay which it wasn't the sellers fault. I'm very happy with the product and the seller.
