I have (2) bigger and more expensive air filtration systems in my home. I added this unit to the bedroom. This unit is slightly taller than an office trash can, easy to use, and quiet! Most important, this machine is a powerhouse. I have asthma and two cats that sleep with me. The machine has made a big difference...actually it does what it says it will do. I don't know anything about the cost of the filters (2). They're serious looking, not garbage!! I didn't do my homework before buying. They sell bigger units without the need of filter replacement. I eventually, plan to change out my other two systems to NuWave.
