Less Altra more average running shoe

This shoe is nothing like the previous Escalantes. It's much stiffer in the sole it's also much more narrow in the toe box. It's still a bit wider than most brands but just a touch. The cushioning is also not my favorite, I feel a little higher off the ground with these shoes, and at the same time it feels much more rigid but not responsive. The 2.5's were the best- I wish I would of bought another pair of those instead of upgrading to the 3's.

Bubble shoe

This shoe fees like other more cushioned, commercial big brand shoes. Has very little flexibility, and the toe box fees small compared to what the 2.5 has. I wish you'd make the 2.5 or something more in those lines of minimum cushion/max flexibility like the escalate use to be.

Like the Escalante 2, this newer model also features our Altra EGO™ foam. If you find the fit to be too tight and you would like a more responsive Escalante experience, please try the Escalante Racer. Another disappointed, long time escalante customer

Like others whom have commented here, I've been running in these since version 1 but the love affair is over and it's left me bitter. These are no longer the shoe that made Altra great. They've become too narrow in the toe box and too stiff, especially in the upper. Version 3 has finalized its transition into a walking shoe more than a running shoe. I don't understand why Altra only offers two designs in the original foot shape now. Neglecting the design they built their reputation on feels like the best indicator that they've lost their way.
