I am usually a medium, but I bought these in wide to accommodate thicker socks. I plan on wearing them for a vacation which requires a lot of walking. I broke them in walking around the house and there was no pain. I think they function as a pair of black shoes, peeping out from under my longer pants with the benefit of the sneaker for walking on cobblestones abroad.
