Boxes as described and nice strength to them. As some other review suggested, they do come shipped with no outer protection. The boxes are just banded together with shipping label stuck to an outer box (peels off easily). I did not experience any damage to the boxes so that wasn't a problem. I could see if the weather was rainy they could have very easily gotten wet during transport. Just something to consider.
