All through a single USB-C cable.See important notes regarding Alt Mode and PD compatibility below.Graphics PerformanceHDMI 1 utilizes USB-C Alt Mode which has a direct "pipeline" to the host graphics processor (GPU), and connected monitor will perform as if connected directly to the computer. The only solution that worked for my Mac Book Pro
I tried at least 10 different methods of using more than 2 external monitors with my MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2019, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports) with Intel Iris Plus Graphics 645 1536 MB. Absolutely nothing worked until I tried this unit, including a $400 Dell TB3 dock that also claimed to have DisplayLink technology. This Plugable unit worked instantly upon downloading the drivers and plugging everything in. I'm still unsure HOW it's working since there is no TB3 compatibility, only USB-C. All I can say is that it DOES work flawlessly, and now I have 4 HDMI monitors attached to my MBP. There are 3 connected to this dock (1 native HDMI stream and 2 using DisplayLink) and 1 from a generic cheap dock (native HDMI stream).
